More and more studies have shown that air pollution is positively related to the proportion of lung cancer. According to statistics, about 136,000 Americans will die from lung cancer in 2020, accounting for 23% of cancer deaths. The American Lung Association (ALA) released its latest air report this year, saying that the air quality in the places where more than 137 million people live is substandard.

Roanoke, VA (Merxwire) – Lung cancer is cancer with the highest mortality rate in the United States. We all know that smoking and second-hand smoke can cause cancer. However, with the relationship between environmental pollution and global warming, air pollution is becoming more and more deadly. According to the latest research data, more than 137 million Americans live in cities with high levels of air pollution. Unhealthy air can cause cancer and risk of childhood asthma attacks, impaired lung function and development, lung cancer, heart attack and stroke, and premature death.

The Lung Association’s 23rd annual “State of the Air” report found that millions of people live in and breathe polluted air, putting their health and lives at risk. Among them, suspended particles PM2.5 can quickly enter the human body and reach the deep part of the respiratory system. It can also enter the human body through the eyes and cornea. Long-term inhalation can cause allergies, asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other air pollution’s number one killer.

The ALA report includes data from 2018 to 2020 covering multiple U.S. cities on air pollutants such as particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, which can be found in fossil fuel emissions. It is thought to be responsible for asthma attacks, heart attacks and strokes, and lung cancer.

According to ALA National President and CEO Harold Wimmer, more than 137 million Americans live in areas with poor air quality and more polluted air in places where people of color live. Severe, about 61% higher than white communities, and on average, at least one source of pollution data is unqualified.

More than 13 million people worldwide die every year from avoidable environmental causes. The air pollution problem is not unique to the United States, but the same situation faces the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) made recommendations, calling on countries to strengthen actions to improve air quality. For example, adopt or revise and implement national air quality standards, implement stricter vehicle emissions and energy efficiency standards, provide safe and affordable mass transit systems and pedestrian and cycling networks, encourage energy-efficient housing and Agroforestry activities such as electricity generation, mandatory inspection and maintenance of vehicles, improved industrial and municipal waste management, reduction of waste incineration, forest fires and charcoal production.
