HUALIEN, TAIWAN (MERXWIRE) – As Hualien prepares to host two major international sporting events in 2026 — the IDBF Club Crew World Championships (CCWC) and the International Children’s Games (ICG) — the Hualien County Government is actively strengthening the city’s international-friendly environment. Through its Bilingual Services Coaching Program, the county is assisting local restaurants, hotels, souvenir shops, and tourism operators to enhance their Chinese-English communication, helping them better serve overseas visitors and clearly present their products and brand value in a global context.

This year, 21 local businesses were selected through an open recruitment process to participate in the program. Under the commission of the county government, a professional consulting team provided tailored, one-on-one support to each participatingbusiness. The services covered bilingual signage, menus, service manuals, tour introductions, website content, and social media advertising materials. From English translation and content development to layout and visual design, the program ensured each business could efficiently complete its bilingual upgrade.

Among the participating businesses, Dajili Tribal House shared that international visitors now account for approximately 60% of its guests. Before the bilingual transformation, staff mainly relied on basic words and body language to communicate. With the introduction of bilingual signs, menus, and guided tour descriptions, communication has significantly improved. Visitors are now able to better understand the tribe’s culture and stories, leading to higher engagement and satisfaction. Linji Fishball, another participating business, also noted that in the past, taking orders often took extra time due to language barriers and differing accents. After adopting a bilingual menu, the ordering process has become faster and more efficient, and international customers have responded very positively to the clearer and more welcoming experience.
