Orang Utan Republik Foundation launches Student Sponsorship Program, Innovative online support program helps Indonesian youth become conservation educators, and hopes that the world will become better.
Kuta, Indonesia (Merxwire) – The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) has a long-term interest in the conservation of orangutans. They have launched a student sponsorship program while implementing the orangutan project. This program is an e-certificate gifting platform that makes it easy for you to support the Scholarship and become a guardian of the scholarship.
This program has awarded 172 multi-year scholarships to Indonesian students in the fields of biology, forestry and veterinary science. Almost 100 scholarship recipients have graduated, most of whom work in non-profit conservation organizations and support the survival of orangutans.
“It’s critical to involve local people in conservation efforts,” OURF Director Dr. Gary Shapiro explains. “The new Student Sponsorship Program will keep the OCS thriving in the years ahead.”
Potential donors can learn about six exceptional students who represent the entire scholarship program. The students were nominated by the implementing organizations that locally promote and manage the OCS.
“When you sponsor a student, you’ll receive a student biography and and an e-Certificate of Guardianship,”
Patterned after the orangutan adoption programs, funds collected by this program will be used to support all of the students who are receiving fiscal support.
About the Orang Utan Republik Foundation
The mission of the Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF) is to save the critically endangered orangutans from extinction by supporting, coordinating and facilitating conservation education, outreach programs, and other innovative collaborative projects in the species’ host country of Indonesia. Established as the Orang Utan Republik Education Initiative in 2004, OURF received its foundation status in 2007.
OURF seeks to transform the attitudes, values and beliefs of local Indonesians who impact wild orangutan populations in culturally appropriate ways such that they become the caretakers of the species and their rain forest habitat.
