Most companies are working hard for circular economy and reuse. In Taiwan, manufacturers use coffee grounds to make shoes and waste gas to make clothes, and those technologies attract attention.

Kaohsiung, Taiwan (Merxwire) – With the adoption of the Paris Agreement by the 195 member states of the United Nations on December 12th, 2015, governments have set carbon neutrality targets. Finland is expected to be carbon neutral by 2035. Austria and Iceland are expected to be carbon neutral by 2040. The European Union, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, and New Zealand are expected to be carbon neutral by 2050. Taiwan is expected to halve its carbon emissions by 2050.

How to make the earth sustainable? Many countries and companies are looking for green energy and trying to reduce pollution in the production process. In Taiwan, some manufacturers choose to use recycled materials to make products. They use coffee grounds to make shoes and waste gas to make clothes; and those technology is attracting attention.

Use coffee grounds to make shoes

Coffee is one of the three major beverages in the world, and many people have to drink a cup of coffee every day to start work. For the sake of environmental protection, some consumers will bring their own cups for coffee, but they still cannot avoid the production of coffee grounds. In the past, most coffee grounds were discarded, and only a few coffee grounds were used to fertilize. Now, Taiwanese manufacturers Ccilu use coffee grounds to make shoes.

Taking the convenience store’s medium cup coffee as a benchmark, “about 15 cups can make a pair of rain boots, 5 cups can make a pair of step shoes, and 2 cups can make a pair of slippers.” Coffee grounds can be used to make shoe surfaces, insoles; and At the bottom, in all raw materials, coffee grounds account for about 40% to 60%. The technology has obtained ten international patents, and the products have been sold in more than 40 countries, including Europe, America, and Asia.

Use waste gas to make clothes

While most companies are committed to reducing carbon emissions, Taiwanese companies Far Eastern New Century Corporation have used “recycled carbon” to make products. They use technology to capture carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide in the air and convert them into ethanol (alcohol), then convert the ethanol into polyester, and finally become the textile industry’s fiber cloth, making the world’s first “exhaust gas recycling clothing.”

Taiwanese manufacturers used recycled PET bottles to make clothes in the past, but now they have optimized their technology and used “exhaust gas” to make clothes. The industry said that carbon capture technology is not new, but its use in the “textile industry” is an innovative approach! Through Recycled ester pellets technology, land garbage, marine waste, and air exhaust can all be made into clothes. This is an important development milestone in the circular economy.

Asia’s Sustainable Supply & Circular Economy Conference

For the sustainable development of the earth, the whole world needs to work together, and in addition to the common resolutions of all countries in the world, companies can also contribute to the earth. The 2021 Asia’s Sustainable Supply & Circular Economy Conference will be held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center in Taiwan from November 10th to 12th. A total of 11 countries and more than 100 operators will participate in this conference. The theme is “Net Zero Emissions.”, “Renewable energy” and “sustainable finance” share and discuss the related circular economy practices. Learn more: https://tassasiaexpo.com
